Classic Homemade Apple Crisp
This warm apple crisp is the perfect way to enjoy fresh fall apples with a crunchy, buttery topping.
recipesbynani.comThere is nothing quite like the smell of apples and cinnamon baking in the oven. This recipe is a favorite in my home because it is so simple to put together when you want a sweet treat without all the fuss of making a pie crust.
I always try to pick a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor. If you want to make this even better, add a big scoop of vanilla ice cream right on top while the fruit is still hot and bubbly.
🧺 Ingredients
- 6 cups tart apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
👩🍳Instructions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a 9 by 9 inch baking dish.
- 2
In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the granulated sugar and cinnamon until they are evenly coated.
- 3
Spread the apple mixture into the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
- 4
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt.
- 5
Cut the softened butter into the dry mixture using a fork or your fingers until it looks like coarse crumbs.
- 6
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
- 7
Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling around the edges.
💡 Tips
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. You can warm individual portions in the microwave for a few seconds before serving. It also tastes great served cold for breakfast with a spoonful of yogurt.
