There is nothing quite like the smell of fresh bread baking in your own kitchen. This simple recipe has become a staple for my family because it takes the hard work out of the process while still giving you that beautiful bakery quality loaf.

My best advice is to let the dough sit for the full time suggested. The long rise is exactly what builds the flavor and creates those lovely airy pockets inside the bread.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 and 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons salt

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and instant yeast.

  2. 2

Pour in the warm water and stir until you have a shaggy, sticky dough.

  3. 3

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean towel and let it rest at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours.

  4. 4

Once the dough has risen and doubled in size, preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit with a Dutch oven inside.

  5. 5

Gently shape the dough into a ball on a floured piece of parchment paper and let it rest for 30 minutes while the oven finishes heating.

  6. 6

Carefully drop the dough into the hot Dutch oven, cover it with the lid, and bake for 30 minutes.

  7. 7

Remove the lid and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes until the crust is deep golden brown.

  8. 8

Let the bread cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store your bread in a paper bag or a bread box to keep the crust crunchy. If you want a softer crust, keep it in a plastic bag once it is fully cool. This bread makes excellent toast for breakfast or a base for a hearty sandwich.
