There is nothing quite like the smell of fresh bread baking in the oven. This recipe is a favorite in my kitchen because you do not have to spend hours kneading dough, yet you still get that perfect, bubbly texture every single time.

My best tip is to use plenty of good quality olive oil. It is the secret to getting those nice crispy edges that make focaccia so special. You can even sprinkle some fresh rosemary or sea salt on top before you bake it for extra flavor.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon flaky sea salt for topping

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast, and salt.

  2. 2

Pour in the warm water and stir until you have a shaggy, sticky dough.

  3. 3

Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm spot for about two hours, or until it has doubled in size.

  4. 4

Drizzle two tablespoons of olive oil into a 9 by 13 inch baking pan.

  5. 5

Transfer the dough to the pan and gently stretch it toward the corners.

  6. 6

Drizzle the remaining oil over the top of the dough and use your fingers to press deep dimples all over the surface.

  7. 7

Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and let it rest for another 30 minutes while the oven preheats to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.

  8. 8

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. You can also freeze slices for up to a month and warm them up in the toaster. It is wonderful served alongside a bowl of hot soup or dipped in balsamic vinegar.
