Easy Rustic Apple Galette
A simple and cozy fruit tart that delivers all the flavors of apple pie with much less fuss.
recipesbynani.comThis apple galette is my go to dessert when I want something sweet and homemade but do not have the time to deal with a traditional pie crust. It looks beautiful on the table because of its rustic shape, and the best part is that you do not even need to peel the apples.
My favorite thing about this recipe is how forgiving it is. You simply roll out the dough, pile the apples in the center, and fold the edges over. I recommend serving it warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream to make it extra special.
🧺 Ingredients
- 1 recipe of your favorite pie dough, chilled
- 3 large apples, thinly sliced
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 egg, beaten for egg wash
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar for sprinkling
👩🍳Instructions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
On a floured surface, roll your chilled dough out into a rough circle about 12 inches across.
- 3
Toss your apple slices in a bowl with the sugar and cinnamon until they are well coated.
- 4
Arrange the apple slices in the center of your dough, leaving about a 2 inch border around the edge.
- 5
Fold the edges of the dough up and over the apples, pleating the dough as you go to keep it secure.
- 6
Dot the top of the apples with the small pieces of butter.
- 7
Brush the edges of the crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle the coarse sugar over the top.
- 8
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
💡 Tips
Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. If you want to warm it up, pop a slice into a 300 degree oven for five minutes to get the crust crisp again.
