There is nothing quite like a warm honey bun to start your morning. These are a favorite in my kitchen because they are soft, sweet, and go perfectly with a fresh cup of coffee.

You can choose to bake or fry these depending on your mood. Frying gives them that classic golden color, but baking is a lot easier if you want to keep the kitchen mess to a minimum.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar for the filling
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup softened butter for spreading
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for the glaze
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons milk

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl and let it sit for five minutes until it gets foamy.

  2. 2

Mix in the flour, melted butter, salt, and egg until a dough forms.

  3. 3

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about five minutes until smooth, then let it rise in a greased bowl for one hour.

  4. 4

Roll the dough into a large rectangle and spread the softened butter over the surface.

  5. 5

Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon over the butter, then roll the dough into a tight log.

  6. 6

Slice the log into rounds and place them on a baking sheet or prepare your oil for frying.

  7. 7

If baking, bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. If frying, cook in hot oil until golden brown on both sides.

  8. 8

Whisk the powdered sugar, honey, and milk together to make a glaze and drizzle it over the warm buns.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftover buns in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. You can reheat them in the microwave for ten seconds to get that fresh out of the oven softness back.
