These cookies are known for being monstrously loaded with treats. They have crispy edges, a chewy center, and are absolutely packed with chocolate chips and colorful M&Ms. Whether you call them monster cookies because of the variety of ingredients or because they are wonderfully messy, they are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them.

I love this recipe because it is a simple, hand mixed dough that you do not need to chill before baking. If you want to make them look extra special, save a few extra M&Ms to press onto the tops of the cookies as soon as they come out of the oven.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup plain all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup commercial peanut butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, fridge cold
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup plain M&Ms
  • 1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, rolled oats, baking soda, and salt. Set this aside.

  3. 3

In a large bowl, melt the butter until mostly liquid but with a few small lumps remaining. Stir until the heat of the liquid butter melts the rest.

  4. 4

Add the peanut butter, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla to the melted butter. Mix well with a wooden spoon until combined.

  5. 5

Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in most of the M&Ms and chocolate chips, reserving a small handful for the tops.

  6. 6

Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto your prepared baking sheet, spacing them out to allow for spreading.

  7. 7

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the edges are golden brown. Press the remaining M&Ms into the tops of the hot cookies immediately after taking them out of the oven.

  8. 8

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely.

💡 Tips

Store these cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. You can also freeze the baked cookies for a quick treat later on, or keep the raw dough balls in the freezer to bake whenever you have a craving.
