Nani's Hearty Turkey Chili
A cozy, nourishing bowl of chili that is packed with lean turkey and fresh vegetables.
recipesbynani.comThis healthy turkey chili is a staple in my kitchen because it is so comforting and simple to make. Everyone loves how the spices blend with the beans and turkey to create a really satisfying meal that warms you up from the inside out.
My top tip for this recipe is to let the chili simmer for a little extra time if you have it. Letting the flavors sit together on the stove makes the sauce taste even richer and better the next day.
🧺 Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1 zucchini, diced
- 1 can diced tomatoes, 15 ounces
- 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt and black pepper to taste
👩🍳Instructions
- 1
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- 2
Add the ground turkey and cook until it is browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as you go.
- 3
Toss in the onion, garlic, bell pepper, and zucchini, then cook for about five minutes until the vegetables start to soften.
- 4
Stir in the diced tomatoes, beans, broth, chili powder, and cumin.
- 5
Bring the mixture to a light boil, then turn the heat down low and let it simmer for twenty minutes.
- 6
Taste your chili and add salt and pepper as needed before serving warm.
💡 Tips
Serve this chili with a dollop of Greek yogurt or shredded cheese on top. It keeps well in the fridge for up to four days and actually tastes even better as leftovers once the spices settle.
