When Thursday rolls around, I need a dinner that comes together fast without sacrificing any flavor. These ground turkey tacos are my go to recipe because they are ready in just fifteen minutes and always satisfy those taco night cravings.

I love serving these with a fresh pico de gallo and a crunchy slaw to give them that perfect summer feel. They are light enough for a hot evening but hearty enough to keep everyone full until breakfast.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 packet taco seasoning or a blend of chili powder, cumin, and garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 8 small flour or corn tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage for slaw
  • 1 cup fresh heirloom tomato pico de gallo
  • 1 ripe avocado sliced or mashed into guacamole
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.

  2. 2

Add the ground turkey to the pan and cook until it is browned and no longer pink, breaking it up with a spoon as you go.

  3. 3

Stir in the taco seasoning and the water, then let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes until the sauce has thickened nicely.

  4. 4

While the meat simmers, warm your tortillas in a dry pan or the microwave.

  5. 5

Assemble the tacos by spooning the turkey mixture into the warm tortillas.

  6. 6

Top each taco with a scoop of slaw, fresh pico de gallo, and avocado slices before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftover turkey mixture in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. To keep your tortillas soft, wrap them in a damp paper towel and heat them in the microwave for twenty seconds just before serving.
