My family just loves this macaroni and cheese because it is so rich and thick. It is the perfect side dish for big holiday dinners when your oven is already full of other food like turkey or ham.

The best part is that you do not have to boil the pasta before it goes into the pot. Just make sure you use freshly shredded cheese from a block so it melts into a perfectly smooth sauce for your noodles.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 16 ounces uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 12 ounces evaporated milk
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

πŸ‘©β€πŸ³Instructions

  1. 1

Grease the inside of your slow cooker with butter or cooking spray to keep the pasta from sticking to the sides.

  2. 2

Add the dry elbow macaroni, evaporated milk, whole milk, butter, salt, pepper, and garlic powder to the pot.

  3. 3

Stir in about three quarters of the shredded cheddar and mozzarella, saving a little bit of each for the very end.

  4. 4

Put the lid on and cook on the low setting for about 2 to 3 hours.

  5. 5

Check the pasta after 2 hours to see if it is tender, giving it a gentle stir so the noodles cook evenly.

  6. 6

Once the pasta is soft and the sauce is creamy, sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top.

  7. 7

Let it sit with the lid on for about five minutes until that top layer of cheese is melted and then serve it warm.

πŸ’‘ Tips

You can store any leftovers in a sealed container in the fridge for up to four days. If the sauce gets too thick when you reheat it, just splash in a little extra milk to make it creamy again.
