There is truly nothing like the smell of apples and cinnamon simmering in the kitchen. Making your own applesauce is so much better than the store bought kind because you control exactly what goes into it, and it tastes much fresher too.

This recipe is a favorite in my house because it is so easy to toss everything into the slow cooker and let it do all the work. It is perfect for snacking, adding to your morning oatmeal, or even using as a sugar substitute in your favorite baking recipes.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 4 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1/2 cup water or apple cider
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

Place the peeled and chopped apples into your slow cooker.

  2. 2

Add the water, brown sugar, lemon juice, and ground cinnamon over the apples.

  3. 3

Give everything a quick stir to coat the apples evenly.

  4. 4

Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, or until the apples are very soft and tender.

  5. 5

Use a potato masher or a fork to mash the apples to your preferred texture, or blend them if you like a very smooth sauce.

  6. 6

Let the applesauce cool before serving or storing.

💡 Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. You can also freeze the applesauce in freezer safe bags for up to three months. If you like a chunkier sauce, just mash it a little less at the end.
