There is something truly special about a hot pressed Cuban sandwich. It is the perfect comfort food when you want a meal that hits every flavor note from salty and savory to tangy and crunchy.

My favorite part is getting the bread perfectly golden brown and crispy. If you do not have a sandwich press, just use a heavy skillet and a second heavy pan to weigh it down while it cooks.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Cuban bread or French bread, cut into 4 pieces
  • 4 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 8 ounces roasted pork, thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces ham, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle slices
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Slice your bread loaves open and spread a good layer of mustard on both the top and bottom halves.

  2. 2

Layer the Swiss cheese, roasted pork, ham, and pickles inside the bread.

  3. 3

Close the sandwiches and spread the softened butter generously over the outside of the bread.

  4. 4

Place the sandwiches in a preheated sandwich press or a heavy skillet over medium heat.

  5. 5

Cook until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is fully melted, which usually takes about 3 to 4 minutes per side.

  6. 6

Remove from the heat and slice diagonally before serving warm.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve these with a side of plantain chips or a small garden salad to round out your lunch. If you have leftovers, wrap them tightly in foil and keep them in the fridge for a day, then reheat in a pan to keep that crisp crust.
