There is something so satisfying about making your own crackers from scratch at home. These sourdough cheese crackers are incredibly crunchy and have that perfect sharp cheesy flavor that makes them impossible to stop eating.

I love this recipe because it is a great way to put your sourdough discard to good use. You can mix the dough ahead of time and bake them whenever you need a quick snack.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Combine the sourdough discard, flour, softened butter, shredded cheddar, salt, and garlic powder in a medium mixing bowl.

  2. 2

Mix the ingredients together until a smooth dough ball forms.

  3. 3

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

  4. 4

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  5. 5

Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface until it is very thin, about 1/8 inch thick.

  6. 6

Cut the dough into small squares using a knife or a pizza cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

  7. 7

Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the crackers are crisp.

  8. 8

Let the crackers cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store your crackers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. If they lose their crispness over time, just pop them in a warm oven for a few minutes to crisp them back up. These pair wonderfully with a bowl of soup or a glass of wine.
