There is something so satisfying about a really good deli sandwich. This version is my go to when I want a quick lunch that tastes like it came from a local specialty shop, and the combination of savory meats with creamy cheese never gets old.

To keep everything from getting soggy, I like to layer the lettuce and tomatoes right before serving. If you have some extra time, letting the oil and vinegar soak into the bread for a few minutes makes a world of difference.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 1 crusty Italian sub roll
  • 3 slices Genoa salami
  • 3 slices pepperoni
  • 3 slices capicola
  • 2 slices fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 1 handful shredded lettuce
  • 2 slices ripe tomato
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 pinch dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Slice your sub roll open and lightly toast the inside if you prefer a little crunch.

  2. 2

Layer the salami, pepperoni, and capicola on the bottom half of the bread.

  3. 3

Place the fresh mozzarella slices over the meat.

  4. 4

Top the cheese with your tomato slices and shredded lettuce.

  5. 5

Drizzle the olive oil and red wine vinegar over the lettuce and tomatoes.

  6. 6

Sprinkle the oregano, salt, and pepper over the top before closing the sandwich with the other half of the roll.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

If you are packing this for a picnic, keep the dressing in a small container and add it just before you eat so the bread stays firm. You can store leftovers in the fridge for a few hours, but this sandwich is best enjoyed fresh.
