There is something so special about how za'atar transforms simple ground beef into a meal that tastes like it took hours to prepare. It is my favorite go to recipe on busy nights when I want something healthy but also truly delicious.

My biggest tip is to use fresh spinach or chard so it wilts just right without becoming mushy. Serve this over warm rice or with pita bread for a complete meal that the whole family will enjoy.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons za'atar seasoning
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 5 ounces fresh baby spinach or chopped swiss chard
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup toasted pine nuts for topping
  • Lemon wedges for serving

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  2. 2

Add the diced onion and cook until it is soft and translucent, which takes about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until it is browned, breaking it up with a spoon as you go.

  4. 4

Stir in the minced garlic and the za'atar seasoning and cook for another minute until fragrant.

  5. 5

Add the greens to the skillet in handfuls, stirring constantly until they are wilted.

  6. 6

Season the mixture with salt and pepper to your liking.

  7. 7

Remove from the heat and sprinkle with toasted pine nuts, then serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Leftovers keep well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. You can reheat this gently in a skillet or microwave, but be sure to add a fresh squeeze of lemon before eating to brighten up the flavors.
