Pears are such an underrated fruit that deserve much more love in our kitchens. This crisp is one of my favorite ways to use them, especially when the air turns chilly and you want something cozy baking in the oven.

This recipe is simple to put together and tastes just like the old fashioned desserts we grew up eating. It is a lovely treat for any night of the week and it happens to be easily adaptable for different dietary needs too.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 6 ripe pears, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a baking dish.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, toss the sliced pears with the lemon juice, granulated sugar, and half of the cinnamon.

  3. 3

Spread the pear mixture evenly into the bottom of your prepared baking dish.

  4. 4

In a separate bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, remaining cinnamon, and chopped walnuts.

  5. 5

Cut the cold butter into the dry mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until it looks like coarse crumbs.

  6. 6

Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the pears.

  7. 7

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.

  8. 8

Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

This crisp is best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days and warm them up in the oven before serving again.
