There is nothing quite like a classic Bolognese to bring the whole family to the dinner table. This recipe is a favorite in my house because it is filling, flavorful, and tastes even better once the sauce has had time to sit for a day or two.

My best tip is to use a mix of ground beef and pork if you want extra flavor, but plain beef works perfectly fine too. Make sure you let that sauce simmer until it is nice and thick for the best results.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 pound spaghetti noodles
  • Freshly grated parmesan cheese for serving

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Heat the olive oil in a large pot or deep skillet over medium heat.

  2. 2

Add the onion and cook until it is soft and translucent, then add the garlic and cook for one more minute.

  3. 3

Add the ground beef to the pot and cook until it is browned all over, making sure to break it up with a wooden spoon as you go.

  4. 4

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, and basil.

  5. 5

Turn the heat down to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 20 minutes to let the flavors blend.

  6. 6

While the sauce simmers, boil a large pot of salted water and cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions.

  7. 7

Drain the pasta and serve it topped with a generous amount of meat sauce and parmesan cheese.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. This sauce also freezes beautifully if you want to save some for a busy weeknight meal later on.
