There is nothing quite like a rich meat sauce simmered slowly to perfection. My family loves this meal because it is filling, wholesome, and tastes even better as leftovers the next day.

To make this extra special, I always recommend using a mix of beef and pork for a deeper flavor profile. If you have extra time, letting it simmer on the stove for an hour really brings all the savory notes together.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes, 28 ounces
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Brown the ground beef and pork in a large pot over medium heat until cooked through.

  2. 2

Drain the excess fat from the pot and add the diced onion and garlic.

  3. 3

Cook the onion and garlic until soft, then stir in the tomato paste and cook for one minute.

  4. 4

Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil to the pot.

  5. 5

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes while you stir occasionally.

  6. 6

Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the spaghetti according to the package directions.

  7. 7

Drain the pasta and serve it topped with the meat sauce and a generous sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. You can also freeze the sauce for up to three months. If you want a bit of heat, sprinkle in a pinch of red pepper flakes before serving.
