Honey walnut shrimp is a real treat when you want something special for dinner. The combination of crispy shrimp tossed in a light, creamy sauce with those crunchy candied walnuts is just addictive.

My best tip is to get everything prepped and ready before you start cooking the shrimp. The sauce comes together fast, and you want to serve it while the coating is still nice and crisp.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Vegetable oil for frying

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Start by making the candied walnuts. Add the sugar and water to a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring it to a boil, add the walnuts, and cook for about 3 minutes. Drain the walnuts and let them cool on a piece of parchment paper.

  2. 2

Whisk the mayonnaise, honey, condensed milk, and lemon juice together in a large bowl and set it aside.

  3. 3

Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg white until it is frothy, then toss the shrimp in it. Sprinkle the cornstarch over the shrimp and toss until they are evenly coated.

  4. 4

Pour about an inch of oil into a large skillet over medium high heat. Fry the shrimp in small batches until they are golden brown, then drain them on paper towels.

  5. 5

Add the fried shrimp to the bowl with the honey sauce and toss gently to coat. Top with the candied walnuts and serve immediately.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve this dish immediately over steaming hot jasmine rice to keep the shrimp coating crunchy. If you have leftovers, store them in the fridge, but keep in mind the shrimp will lose their crisp texture over time.
