This steak bowl has become a staple in my kitchen when I want something that feels fancy but is actually quite simple to make. It balances the savory flavor of the steak with bright veggies and a lovely crunch from the garlic breadcrumbs.

My best tip is to let the steak rest for a few minutes before you slice it. This ensures that all those flavorful juices stay inside the meat rather than running out onto your cutting board.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 1 pound sirloin or flank steak
  • 1 cup quinoa
  • 2 cups water or beef broth
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cup pickled red onions
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Rinse the quinoa under cold water, then combine it with the water or broth in a medium pot.

  2. 2

Bring the quinoa to a boil, then cover and simmer for 15 minutes or until the liquid is absorbed.

  3. 3

While the quinoa cooks, heat one tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and toast the breadcrumbs with the minced garlic until golden brown. Remove them from the pan and set aside.

  4. 4

Pat the steak dry and season generously with salt and pepper.

  5. 5

Heat the remaining oil and butter in the same skillet over high heat. Sear the steak for 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium rare, or until it reaches your preferred level of doneness.

  6. 6

Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing it against the grain.

  7. 7

Assemble the bowls by spooning the cooked quinoa into serving dishes, then topping with the sliced steak, fresh tomatoes, and pickled onions.

  8. 8

Sprinkle the crispy garlic breadcrumbs over the top just before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

These bowls are great for meal prep if you keep the steak and quinoa stored in separate containers. To reheat, just warm the steak and grain slightly in the microwave and add the fresh toppings right before you eat.
