There is something so comforting about the smell of cinnamon and apples baking in the oven. These apple pie bars are a favorite in my house because they are much easier to slice and share than a traditional pie.

My best tip is to use a mix of apple varieties like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp. The tartness from one and the sweetness from the other makes the flavor really stand out in every single bite.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce for drizzling

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9 by 13 inch baking pan.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

Cut the cold butter into the dry mixture using a pastry cutter or your hands until it looks like coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

Stir in the egg until the mixture is just combined and crumbly.

  5. 5

Press two thirds of the dough into the bottom of your prepared pan to form a firm base.

  6. 6

In a separate bowl, toss the apple slices with the 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon.

  7. 7

Spread the apple mixture evenly over the bottom crust.

  8. 8

Crumble the remaining dough over the top of the apples.

  9. 9

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.

  10. 10

Allow the bars to cool completely before drizzling with the caramel sauce and cutting into squares.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store these bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. If you want to keep them longer, pop them in the fridge to stay fresh. Serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a special treat.
