There is truly no comparison between store bought jars and the real thing. When you make applesauce at home, your kitchen fills with the most wonderful scent of cinnamon and cooked fruit. It is a simple treat that brings back so many childhood memories.

I love making a big batch to keep in the fridge for the week. You can leave it chunky if you like a bit of texture, or blend it until it is perfectly smooth. It is a fantastic side dish for pork chops or a healthy snack for the little ones.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 4 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup sugar, optional
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Place the peeled and chopped apples into a large pot with the water, lemon juice, sugar, and cinnamon.

  2. 2

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.

  3. 3

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the apples simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes until they are very soft.

  4. 4

Remove the pot from the heat and mash the apples with a potato masher for a chunky texture or use an immersion blender if you prefer it smooth.

  5. 5

Let the applesauce cool slightly before serving or storing it in the refrigerator.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store your applesauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. You can also freeze it in freezer bags for up to three months. It is delicious served warm with a little extra sprinkle of cinnamon on top.
