There is nothing quite like the smell of fresh naan cooking on the stove. This recipe is a favorite in my house because it is so much better than anything you can buy at the store, especially when you pull it apart to reveal that stretchy, melted cheese inside.

My best tip for success is to make sure your pan is nice and hot before you start cooking. This helps you get those beautiful golden brown spots on the dough without drying out the center.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, mix the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt together.

  2. 2

Stir in the warm water and yogurt until a soft dough forms.

  3. 3

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth, then cover it and let it rise in a warm spot for about one hour.

  4. 4

Divide the dough into four equal pieces and roll each one out into a small circle.

  5. 5

Place a generous spoonful of shredded mozzarella into the center of each circle, then fold the edges up to seal the cheese inside. Gently roll or pat it flat again.

  6. 6

Heat a skillet over medium high heat and cook each naan for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until bubbles form and the bread is golden brown.

  7. 7

Mix the melted butter, minced garlic, and cilantro in a small bowl, then brush the mixture over the hot naan before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve these warm alongside your favorite curry or spicy stew to soak up all the extra sauce. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container and reheat them in a pan for a minute so they stay soft instead of turning chewy in the microwave.
