There is truly nothing like making your own tartar sauce at home. Store bought versions just cannot compare to the fresh, zingy flavor you get when you mix these simple pantry staples together in your own kitchen.

My favorite trick is to let the sauce sit in the fridge for about thirty minutes before serving. This allows the onion and pickle flavors to meld into the mayo for a much smoother taste.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 1 cup quality mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped dill pickles
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon finely minced red onion
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or fresh chopped parsley
  • A pinch of salt and black pepper to taste

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

In a small mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, chopped pickles, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and minced red onion.

  2. 2

Stir in the parsley and a pinch of salt and pepper.

  3. 3

Taste the sauce and adjust the lemon juice or seasoning if you prefer a sharper tang.

  4. 4

Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least thirty minutes so the flavors can develop.

  5. 5

Stir once more before serving alongside your favorite seafood or snacks.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. This sauce tastes wonderful on fish sandwiches or even as a dip for crispy roasted potatoes.
