Nani’s Creamy Beef Stroganoff
A cozy, comforting bowl of tender steak and mushrooms in a rich, velvety sauce that the whole family will love.
recipesbynani.comThere is nothing quite like a big bowl of beef stroganoff to warm you up after a long day. This dish brings back so many memories for me because it is simple, hearty, and tastes like a special meal even on a busy weeknight.
My biggest tip is to make sure you sear the steak over high heat so it gets a nice brown crust before you add the mushrooms. This builds so much flavor in the pan that makes the creamy sauce taste extra special.
🧺 Ingredients
- 1 pound sirloin steak, sliced into thin strips
- 8 ounces egg noodles
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish
👩🍳Instructions
- 1
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the egg noodles according to the package directions. Drain and set them aside.
- 2
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Season the steak strips with salt and pepper, then add them to the pan. Brown the meat quickly on all sides and remove it from the skillet.
- 3
In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the mushrooms and onions, cooking them until they are soft and golden brown.
- 4
Stir in the garlic and cook for one minute until fragrant. Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir well to coat them.
- 5
Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it thicken for a few minutes.
- 6
Lower the heat and stir in the sour cream until the sauce is smooth. Add the steak strips back into the pan and stir until everything is heated through.
- 7
Serve the creamy beef mixture over the cooked egg noodles and sprinkle with fresh parsley.
💡 Tips
Leftovers stay fresh in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. If the sauce thickens too much while reheating, just add a tiny splash of beef broth or water to loosen it up. This tastes wonderful served with a simple side salad.
