I learned this simple recipe from a dear friend who lived in Maui for many years. It is honestly the best version I have ever tasted because it focuses on using very ripe avocados and just a few high quality ingredients to let the flavor shine.

My biggest tip for this recipe is to taste your lime before adding all the juice. Sometimes the limes are extra tart, so it is better to start with half and add more until the balance feels right to you.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 3 ripe Hass avocados
  • 1/2 small red onion, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

Slice the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium mixing bowl.

  2. 2

Use a fork or a potato masher to break up the avocado until it reaches your preferred texture, whether you like it chunky or smooth.

  3. 3

Gently fold in the diced red onion, fresh cilantro, and minced jalapeño.

  4. 4

Pour the lime juice over the mixture and sprinkle with the salt.

  5. 5

Stir everything together gently and taste. Add more salt or lime juice if you think it needs a little extra kick.

  6. 6

Serve immediately with your favorite tortilla chips.

💡 Tips

If you are not serving this right away, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole to keep it from turning brown. You can store any leftovers in the fridge for up to one day, though it is always best served fresh.
