There is nothing quite like the smell of sweet potatoes and cinnamon filling the house. This crockpot version is a favorite in my kitchen because it frees up valuable oven space during busy holiday meals or family gatherings.

My best tip for this recipe is to make sure your sweet potato cubes are roughly the same size. This helps them cook evenly so you get a smooth and creamy texture in every single bite.

๐Ÿงบ Ingredients

  • 3 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, for the topping
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸณInstructions

  1. 1

Place the cubed sweet potatoes into the bowl of your slow cooker.

  2. 2

In a small bowl, whisk together the half cup of brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, and salt. Pour this mixture over the sweet potatoes and stir until they are well coated.

  3. 3

Cover and cook on high for 3 to 4 hours or on low for 6 to 7 hours, until the potatoes are very tender.

  4. 4

Once the potatoes are done, use a potato masher to mash them right inside the slow cooker until they reach your desired consistency.

  5. 5

In a separate small bowl, combine the pecans, the remaining half cup of brown sugar, flour, and the cold cubed butter. Use your fingers to mix it until it looks crumbly.

  6. 6

Sprinkle the pecan topping over the mashed sweet potatoes. Cover and cook on high for another 20 minutes to let the topping soften and warm through before serving.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

If you want the topping to be a bit crunchier, you can scoop the casserole into a baking dish after it finishes cooking and place it under the broiler for 2 minutes. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
