There is something special about having a reliable sauce in the fridge that brings everything together. This chipotle sauce is one of my favorites because it is so simple to whip up, yet it adds a huge amount of flavor to simple meals like tacos or burrito bowls. It has a lovely texture that sits right between a dip and a drizzle, making it perfect for just about anything.

I love that you get to decide exactly how spicy this gets. Start with a little bit of the chipotle pepper, give it a quick taste, and add more if you want a bigger punch of heat. It stays nice and fresh in the fridge for a few days, so I often make a batch to keep on hand for busy weeknights.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 to 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon adobo sauce from the can
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

Add the sour cream, mayonnaise, chipotle peppers, adobo sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper into a small food processor or blender.

  2. 2

Blend the mixture until it is completely smooth and the peppers are fully incorporated.

  3. 3

Taste the sauce and add another pepper or a little more adobo sauce if you prefer more heat.

  4. 4

Transfer the sauce to a small jar or bowl and keep it in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve.

💡 Tips

Store this sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. It tastes great on grilled chicken or as a dip for roasted sweet potato wedges.
